Every year, thousands of students from the Horn of Africa dream of studying in Turkey. The Turkiye Burslari (Turkey Scholarships) program is arguably the most generous fully-funded scholarship in the world.
It covers everything: university tuition, monthly stipend, accommodation, health insurance, and even your flight ticket. But because it is so good, it is incredibly competitive.
Applications for the 2026 intake will open soon (usually in January/February). If you want to be among the winners, you need to prepare now. Here is your ultimate guide.
1. Am I Eligible? (The Requirements)
Before you start scanning documents, check if you meet the minimum criteria. Turkey is strict about grades and age.
- Undergraduate (Bachelor): Minimum 70% grade. Age: Under 21.
- Master's & PhD: Minimum 75% grade. Age: Under 30 (Master) / Under 35 (PhD).
- Medical Schools (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy): Minimum 90% grade.
2. Required Documents Checklist
You cannot apply without these. Ensure all scans are clear, colored, and in PDF or JPG format.
- Valid Passport or National ID.
- A recent biometric photograph.
- High School Diploma (or temporary graduation certificate).
- Academic Transcripts (all years).
- Reference Letters (from teachers or employers).
- International Exam Scores (SAT/TOEFL) - Optional but recommended.
3. The Application Process (TBBS)
The entire application is done online via the TBBS System. It is free to apply. Never pay an agency to do this for you.
- Create an account on the official website.
- Fill in your personal, educational, and social details.
- Upload your documents.
- University Preference: You can choose up to 12 universities. Be smart—don't just choose Istanbul and Ankara. Choosing smaller cities increases your chances.
4. The "Letter of Intent" (Critical)
This is where 90% of students fail. The "Letter of Intent" is a section where you answer questions like: "Why Turkey?" and "Why this major?"
Do NOT copy from Google or AI. The scholarship committee uses software to detect plagiarism. If they see a copied letter, your application is automatically deleted.
5. Mistakes That Get You Rejected
To secure your seat in 2026, avoid these common errors:
- Uploading blurry documents.
- Using a fake email address or one you don't check.
- Inconsistent information (e.g., CV dates don't match Transcript dates).
